A massive 6 minute 46 second improvement on her marathon PB in only her second race over the distance in Chicago earlier today has put Claire Hallissey firmly in the running for Olympic 2012 selection. Her 2 hours 29 minutes and 27 second clocking for sixth place in the Chicago Marathon ranks her third in the UK behind Paula Radcliffe’s 2 hours 23 minutes and 46 seconds and Jo Pavey’s 2 hours 28 minutes and 24 seconds. One impressive feature of Claire’s run was her negative split getting to half way in 74:50 and coming home in 74:37. Surely there will be more to come by August 2012. The race was won by Russian Lillya Shobukhova in 2 hours 18 minutes 20 seconds – a time which must put the Russian up there with the favourites for next year’s Olympics. Everyone in the Club congratulates Claire on a stunning new club record.
