Lucy MacAlister shines in Bristol Half-Marathon

11 Sep

Lucy MacAlister continued the recent trend of the club star at the Bristol Half-Marathon being a member of the Women’s Team when she finished third woman overall and second british woman behind Gemma Steel and Fidelis Chebet from Kenya (who she closed to within 5 seconds by the finish). With a time of 76:58 Lucy was the first club finisher in fifty-third position. Next to finish was Chris Doe, sixty-seventh in 78:23, Chris has made tremendous strides since joining the club through the Whitehall Recreational Runners Group. Apologies to Luke Grenfell-Shaw (forty-third in 75:23 but Luke was running in the vest of Avon Schools and did not enter as a Bristol & West runner).

Matt Crane finished seventy-fourth in 79:03, while Mark Scrutton rolled back the years as a Vet 50 to finish seventy-eighth (second in his age group) in 79:13 – one place in front of Andy Cooke who clocked 79:26. Next to finish and second lady for the club was Annabel Granger in 81:25.

Special mention must be made of Neil Williams, Pete Woodward, Neil Scholes, Nick Brenchley, Gary Jennings, Peter Gandon, Charlotte Green, Karen Watson, Sarah Everitt, Stuart Price, Paul Noyce, Ben Symonds, Mo Osman, Roger Brocklesby, Claire Viney, Lisa Jordan, Kate Monnelly and Dave and Alison Engledew who have all graduated from the Whitehall Recreational Runners Group and all but Kate and Ben were under 2 hours. This is a great achievement for what really are, in the main, novice runners. Thanks to Chris Elson for scanning the results to find their finishing positions and times – and sorry if we have missed anyone.
