The young person’s local charity, Fairbridge West, is in need of runners for the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday 11 September 2011. Fairbridge rely on the enthusiasm and generosity of fundraisers in order to continue working with young people between the ages of 13-25 from the most disadvantaged urban areas in the South West, giving them a fairer chance to succeed in life. The young people they work with often face multiple issues ranging from school exclusion and homelessness to anti-social behaviour, crime and substance misuse. They often lack family support and exist on the margins of society. They encourage young people by offering them a unique combination of personal support and opportunity. Opportunity in the form of a wide range of challenging and structured courses and projects. Support in the form a tailor-made action plan for each young person and they do this in a safe environment that challenges negative behaviour and recognises achievement.
