Leon REID grasped an ideal opportunity to hit the limelight when selected for Great Britain in the European Youth (Under-18) Olympic Festival in Trabzon, Turkey. 16 year-old Leon showed class when winning his heat in 10.80 on Monday but even that didn’t match the sensational times that he went on to post in the Semi-Final and Final. Turning 17 years old on the day (26th) and with a mere +0.7 wind behind him Leon cruised to a Semi-Final winning time of 10.67 taking the Club Under-20 Record (10.69) of Duncan GAME in the process. In the final Leon virtually matched that time with another wonderful clocking of 10.68 secs to take the Silver Medal behind a German rival. What a way to celebrate your Birthday?
To top it all the British 4x100m team which Leon was of course the key sprint member of took the Silver Medal in a time of 41.37 after qualifying as third fastest team in 41.72. That is two Silver’s Leon – well done.
The European Youth Olympic Festival is a Sports Festival involving some 3,000 athletes from 48 European Countries and involves Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Swimming & Tennis besides of course Athletics. What a great way to spend your Summer Holiday Leon.
