Reality Bites as Bristol Finish Fifth in Midland League

Team Manager Chris Elson sends a big thank you to all members of the team and officials who made the journey to Alexander Stadium for Birchield’s home fixture on Sunday 3rd July 2011. Bristol & West AC go into the last match on Sunday 14th August 2011 still with an overall lead: Bristol & West AC 14 points, Cheltenham 12, Notts 11, Rugby/North & Birchfield 10, Charnwood 7.

Yesterday’s team scores were:

1 Birchfield 401
2 Cheltenham and C H 366
3 Notts AC A 342
4 Rugby/North 326
5 Bristol & West 284
6 Charnwood 276

Despite Chris Elson spending hours on the phone the team was depleted by commitments to the English Schools, holidays, races overseas plus the usual crop of illnesses and injuries. The result might have been far worse had it not been for the heroics of the following one-person teams: Andrea Locke (24 points), James Preston (22 points), Scott Davie (21 points) and Nicola Breaks (17 points) and that doesn’t include the contribution some of them made to the relay teams.

It is now up to everyone – athletes, coaches and officials – to rally round for the trip to Nottingham on Sunday 14th August 2011 if the club is to defend its Midland Track and Field League title and go on to qualify for National League competition.

I am sure that an in-depth report from Mike Strange will follow but full results are already available by following the link to Downloads – Midland Track and Field League.
