Steve Mitchell travelled to the 20th Leon Buyle Memorial Meeting in Belgium with hope of reducing his 1,500 PB down from 3.41.92. His disappointment at not setting a PB was more than offset by his delight at winning as he came home in 3.42.33 to take some notable scalps including those of Scotland’s Bruce Raeside and Wales’ James Thie as British runners filled the first four places. Another notable appearance in the race was that of Dave Bishop who will shortly be back in Bristol after his long spell studying in the States – Dave finished ninth in 3.53.97. Dave also has a 3.41 clocking to his name this year so there will certainly be some rivalry between these two in the months ahead.
