The June running of the Bridge Inn 5k saw the race play host to a ‘mob match’ which ended up with 20 runners scoring for each club. There were 208 starters (a race record) and 205 finishers. Clear winners in the individual races were Phil Wylie and Imogen Ainsworth both from Bristol and West Athletic Club in 15:13 and 17:07 respectively. Imogen who was recovering from a cold was disappointed to leave Bristol without having cracked the 17 minute barrier for the course. In the veteran men category Mike Jacobs (again of Bristol & West) posted the fast time of 16:32.
Bristol & West were clear team winners scoring 434 for their 20 runners, runners-up were local rivals Westbury Harriers who were led home by Matt Ellis (fourth in the men’s race) and Emma D’Alton (second in the women’s race) and scored 1,198 points. Third team place went to Bitton Road Runners who scored 1,387 points.
Overall it was a successful venture that hopefully introduced more local athletes to the delights of a monthly race round the ring road cycle track and generated some income for Avon County Athletic Association.
