Congratulations go to James Taylor who won the South-West Schools Senior Decathlon championship at Exeter over the weekend.
Congratulations also to Matthew Mattis who came 7th in the under-15 Junior Boys Heptathlon. According to Dave Turner Matthew tried hard throughout and as he seldom trains and certainly not for the heptathlon it is a remarkable performance. The high jump and long jump performances highlight how crazy it is that both events in his age group in the NYAL programme are scheduled at the same time. A 5 metre 85 centimetre long jump is probably the best individual performance by a male Bristol & West athlete this season and puts him top of the South West rankings.
Jake Cussell 6th in the under-17 Intermediate Octathlon and Tim Kirkman 9th in the under-15 Boys also did well. Both are Mendip athletes who feature in the combined NYAL team
