Promotion to National League Status in 2011

14 Jun

Congratulations to all athletes and their coaches who successfully supported the club team in the first two winning Midland League matches at Bristol and Rugby. These were superb team performances which make it possible for us to win the league for the third consecutive season – if we don’t become complacent.
If you would please give the same support to the promotion match at Abingdon on September 17 we could secure our place in the mens’ and womens’ national leagues and enjoy the benefits that this would bring. Last year we took part in the promotion match for the first time for many years and came close to success with depleted teams. We also reached a final of the BAL Cup competition.
National League status would give us a higher level of competition and therefore a higher level of performance by individual athletes. We could also attract new members looking for ‘higher claim’ competition and make it unnecessary for current members to join other clubs to progress their careers.
Our club is a major force in our sport and the improvement in facilities, coaching and organisation will provide the means for you as athletes to regain our rightful place on the national stage in track and field. Promotion will also give the young athletes coming behind you the chance to taste national-level competition too when their time comes. Bristol & West has the resources to support successful national-level teams.
In preparation for the promotion match we will once again take part in the Super 8 Cup regional semi-final at Yate on Sunday, 24th July 2011 and aim to reach the final on 4th September in London. Along with the final Midland League match on 14th August at Nottingham, these matches will help to keep our season alive up to 17th September. Please note these dates in your diary.
I look forward to seeing you all again at the next Midland League match at Birmingham on Sunday, 3rd July when another good result will take some of the pressure of the final match.
Thank you for your support,
Cy Knibb
