BUPA London 10k – Monday 30 May 2011

The club ladies travelled to the BUPA 10k in London with high hopes of finishing well up in the UK Club Team award and unofficially ended up runners up once again to arch rivals Charwood. Team results are now on the race web-site and Team Manager Keith Brackstone’s unofficial result is confirmed (based on the times of the first three finishers) Charnwood won in 1:41:41 (2nd Gemma Steel in 32:48, 6th Hannah Whitmore in 34:07 and 9th Juliet Doyle (34:46) and Bristol were second in 1:46:33 (13th Imogen Ainsworth in 35:12, 15th Amy Chalk in 35:25 and Lucy Macalister 18th in 35:56). There was great backing up from Annabel Granger, Nikki Brookland and Kate Goodhead.

After a number of PBs in the Bristol 10k several athletes had a bad day at the office – with several being a minute or more slower than at Bristol with only Imogen – who ran a PB – and Annabel running faster than at Bristol.

It was a similar story in the Men’s race where slower times than at Bristol were the order of the day. Phil Wylie certainly gave it a go in the first half passing 5k in 15:05 but even Phil slowed dramatically in the second half.
