Track & Field Bulletin – 29th March 2011

This is probably the last ‘Bulletin’ for this Indoor season but it finished on a high performance note.

Hayley PITMAN achieved that illusive 1.75 mark in the High Jump to equal the Club Indoor Record set in 1976 by Denise COOPER.  Hayley won the High Jump competition at the High Performance Centre at Alexander Stadium and now sits proud at the top of the South West Rankings for 2011.

Incidentally Alexander now has a magnificent Stand on the back straight, which includes Offices and support facilities and in the next few weeks will be closing to have the track relayed.  It is all for the Olympics – but we are not jealous as we are still boasting two new tracks in Bristol.

Caroline POWELL is our other proud champion this week.  At the European Masters Indoor Champs in Ghent, Belgium she literally ran away with the V55 200m & 400m titles in 28.83 & 63.97.  To demonstrate her dominance in the 400m she won by a clear 5 secs from a Swedish lady!  Sadly with a lack of strong competition Caroline could not improve her recent World Record for the event of 63.39.

Remember we have a Presentation Evening on 15th April 2011 at Rose Green Community Centre where we will be including Awards for the outstanding Indoor performances of the excellent 2010 / 2011 Season.  Why don’t you all come along and enjoy?

Mike Strange
