Saturday 26th March 2011 saw Antrim play host to a variety of cross-country races including the schools home internationals as well as Junior and Senior Home Internationals and inter-area matches. With no club athletes in the schools races it was left to the Nick Rose coached duo of Ellie Wimshurst and Rebekah Randell to keep the Club flag flying in the Junior and Senior races.
In the Junior race Ellie was representing England and finished sixth out of the 33 finishers in yet another comeback race after problems with a foot injury. Ellie’s time of 20.07 was over a minute behind the in-form Hannah Walker who ran 18.58 to lead England to a comfortable team victory. With 3 in the first 4 England scored 7 points and Ellie didn’t make the scoring team.
In the Senior Women’s Race Rebekah went one better than Ellie to finish in fifth place representing the Midland Team only to be shut out by an England whitewash as Juliet Doyle (25.47), Emily Wicks (25.55), Faye Fullerton (25.58) and Laura Parker (26.24) finished 1,2,3,4 for England. Rebekah’s time of 26.25 just one second behind Laura Parker shows just how close she is getting to an international cross-country vest these days.
In all there were 4 Senior/Junior and 4 schools international races at Antrim and England ran out team winners in all 8 competitions.
