Meeting Record for Richard Peters

Rich Peters made a spectacular indoor debut when he set a new meeting record in winning the 3,000m event at the Eastern Region Inter-University contest at Harvard University. In his first ever race on the boards he smashed his previous best for the distance by more than 20 seconds to beat his team-mate Eric Ashe, who is Boston University’s top-ranked distance runner, by nearly ten seconds as he pulled away in the closing stages to win in 8:10.53. It leapfrogged him straight into this indoor season’s Power of Ten top ten times for the distance.
