For the second time in a month a new track opens in Bristol. This time its the new Whitehall Athletic Arena off Johnson’s Lane, Whitehall, Bristol, BS5 9AZ. From tonight onwards the track is available for club use and long jump, triple jump, high jump and shot putt training may also take place at the venue. The club is finalising details on javelin, discus and hammer with City Academy and the club will publicise when these activities can commence at Whitehall. There are issues surrounding the pole vault cover which means that the beds cannot be set up yet but these will be resolved as soon as possible. Despite the remaining equipment issues – the track and field areas have passed inspection by the UK Athletics technical official and a UKA certificate is in the process of being issued.
Beside the equipment issues, there are still numerous practical issues to be resolved so please bear with the Club coaches and committee as things bed in – but this is a real opportunity for the club to start building a home from which to push for promotion to the National Track & Field Leagues in the summer of 2011.
