Below are the results of the 4th match in the Midland League Div 1. The result means that B&W A retain their title convincingly with the match points being B&W AC 18, followed by Charnwood and Nottingham with 17.
Firstly, a big thank you again to all the athletes who took part and the coaches and officials who make it all possible.
Not only did we get out our stars – now most of the team – Emily in thesprints and both relays, Tom Russel with a 1500m/3K double, Christina and James hoovering up the points in the throws, Mike Wilsmore doing a 1.53 800m after food poisening the two days before the race (we now know what
they teach them in the marines!), our young sprint stars Leon and Scott winning the 200m A race and 100m B race respectively, Tony Hillier and Steve West in the PV, Sean in the 3K steeplechase and our middle distance runners Katie Knowles, Debbie Niccol, Ruth Mitchell, Emma Reed, Harry Webb,
Andrew Dean-Young garnering points for a start. But people filled in events. How about Andrea getting coaching in the TJ from Nicola before the event and doing 7.90m, and Imogen revealing unsuspected talents as a Long Jumper (she won the 3K too in a time near her PB), Ruby getting PB’s in the
400H and, wait for it, the Hammer! Then our secret weapon, Evie Tanner not only doing 16.9 for the 100m hurdles, but with a bit of help from Andrea doing the HJ, and starring in the sprint relay with Valentina (getting back to form), Ruth and Evie getting the team in a position for Emily in full
flow (a magnificent sight) to bring the team home in first place!
To Paul Weston, winner of the fortitude stakes over all the meets, for competing successfully in the TJ with piriformis syndrome. Then, while on the subject of TJ, James Diamond with a PB on no training. Finally, Nicola Breaks, what an acquisition she has been, for an immense contribution over all the meets in the javelin, LJ, TJ and shot.
Apologies, I’ve I’ve missed anyone else who deserves an accolade.
Among the PBs’ were Max Creswell in the javelin, Ruth Mitchell in the 400m,
John Brierly 400mH, Alex Fields 400mH, Steve Francis in the 3K.
I hope to see you all next Summer, and many thanks again to you all.
