EMILY Diamond will return home to Bristol tomorrow after finishing sixth in the final of the 200m at the World Junior Championships in Canada.
After clocking a time of 23.62secs the former Easy Runner athlete of the month winner admitted she was a spent force following an intense schedule of races and a big personal best of 23.47secs in the semi finals.
“My legs died after the bend – I tried to get my legs to go fast but they just wouldn’t listen to me, but I’m happy, sixth is good, better than expected,” said Diamond.
American Stormy Kendrick took the 200m title in 22.99 from GB 100m champion Jodie Williams (23.19) with Holland’s Jamile Samuel third.
A botched handover in the relay denied Diamond the chance of a medal but the 19-year-old from Clifton can reflect on a great week in her career.
“I didn’t expect to get to the final,” conceded Diamond. “It was always my aim but I knew I would have to PB to make it.” (See photo of Emily in Canada on home page photos)
