Third Time Lucky in Midland Track and Field League on Saturday 3 July 2010

Bristol & West ran out overall winners in the third Midland Track and Field fixture held at Stoke on Saturday 3 July 2010. As ever it is impossible to single out individuals for special praise as it was very much a team performance. My personal thanks as Team Manager on the day to everyone who made the long journey; to the officials (who as ever were there in number and gained 15 crucial points); to the team members who covered events so that we had competitors in every event with the exception of the ‘B’ string triple jump (Men’s and Women’s); to the individual race winners and to those who won vital points as competitors in unfamiliar events (and here Ruby Juan’s third place in the Women’s 400 metres hurdles springs immediately to mind). The team spirit was great and team members roared our Men’s and Women’s relay teams on to either win or gain valuable places – even if the Men’s 4 x 100 metres relay team was subsequently disqualified (do I hear cries of we were robbed – it certainly cost us 9 points against Charnwood?).  At the final reckoning the Men’s 4 x 400 metres relay team holding Charnwood off by .4 of a second made 4 points difference! Overall it was a very interesting day as the absence of a starter meant that races were started by whistle (giving an amazing lack of false starts) – however it will mean that none of the track results can be entered on ‘Power of 10’.

The final overall results on the day were:

1st Bristol & West 379 points.

2nd Charnwood 375 points.

3rd City of Stoke 358 points.
