It was an incredible team effort to take the club into second place. We are due another couple of points because Bill Kingston’s fifth in the B hammer was omitted – he was declared – I’ve checked!
The opposition was very strong, because the British League matches were on Saturday enabling Birchfield, Nottingham and Mansfield to put out their best athletes including their internationals. I find it difficult to choose who to single out, because so many people made heroic efforts doing multiple events (James Preston, Christina Jones, Hayley Green, Yannick Budd, Alex Fields, Mike Wilsmore, Rich Peters, Sam Moore, Imogen Ainsworth, Ding Yang, Ben Coghlan, Vanessa Brann and of course Andrea Lock) and others who I thought down-played their results (including Vicky Tester and Lucy Parker-Armitage), as they performed well and contributed vital points.
Among those making their debut was Leon Reid, what a talent, at 16 taking 2nd in the B 200 and B LJ and Max Cresswell.
I see the day through a prism being diverted to deal with minor crises and team changes, so I miss things. I was chuffed to bits when I saw the results and that through Hayley Pitman and Nicola Breaks we had maximum points in the women’s HJ – that must be a first!
Finally a big thanks to all the officials without whom we could not take part in the League – I hope all those taking part enjoyed their day.
Please put Saturday July 3rd in your diary for the 3rd League match at Stoke and e-mail email@example.com or leave a phone message on 0117-9733391 if you want to book a team berth or wish to compete in a particular event.
