The City Academy, Bristol and Bristol & West Athletic Club launch their athletics club-school partnership with an indoor Festival of Athletics at the City Academy on July 1-3 2010. The event is also part of the National Schools’ Sports Week.
On Thursday and Friday mornings, July 1 & 2, local primary schools will be invited to taster sessions which include coaching sessions by qualified and experienced coaches from the club in sprints, hurdles, long jump, pole vault, high jump, shot putt, javelin and hammer. Schools’ teams will also compete in the multi-event Quad Kids event on Thursday morning.
Thursday afternoon will be the turn of year 7 students from central Bristol’s secondary schools to show off their athletic talents and enjoy the opportunity to learn new skills with first class coaches in the Academy’s superb sports hall. Friday afternoon will give all Academy students another chance to practice their skills with personal coaching from the Club’s high performance coaches.
Lead coaches have already been appointed and other coaches, athletes and volunteers are required to assist them. If you can come along for a half day, whole day or both days please contact Cy Knibb, the Club’s Development Officer at cy_athletics@ hotmail.co.uk
The grand finale of the week takes place on Saturday morning when Lindford Christie will present ‘Street Athletics’ when male and female sprinters, aged 9 to 20, will be able to take part a series of timed sprint races to find Bristol’s fastest sprinters. Club members are invited to come along in their club kit in a show of club strength. Be a part of a special event in the development of the Club and the Academy.
