PERFORMANCES OF THE WEEK (31)
With the National 6 and 12-stage road relays this coming weekend there were hardly any of our runners in action at the weekend, and there are only two performances of note.
1 CLAIRE HALLISSEY – Claire continues to spread her wings internationally and made an impressive debut in one of America’s top road races – the Cherry Blossom 10M in Washigton – finishing 8th in a top class field and taking no less than 50 seconds off her previous best for the distance with a time of 54:56. She achieved this too despite having her training restricted recently by a grumbling achilles tendon strain. Significantly too there were only two non-Africans ahead of her.
1 JON GOODLAND – Rarely can a performance of the week have been so richly earned. Jon not only completed the famous Marsthon des Sables last week, but finished 141st overall from a field of more than a thousand – this too despite only run/walking the first two days to accompany a running colleague, who was then forced to drop out through injury, which left him back in close to 600th place. From then on he advanced up the field, including a best position of 56th on the marathon day when a temperature of 56 degrees centigrade was recorded. He was third in his V50 category and 19th overall of the large British contingent of runners. He acknowleges that it was a unique experience, but has no intention of doing it again! We take our hats off to you Jon.
