What a beautiful weekend to start the outdoor season in earnest. Alex Fields, Hayley Green and Jon Clayton took advantage.
Alex Fields – courageously got to grips with 400m Hurdles for the first time after some winter advice from Andrea Lock at Filton. Alex who is extremely fit and fast after a good indoor season coupled this with some brave Hurdling to post a time of 64.44 secs. See that time tumble Alex as your hurdling improves. Alex also posted an excellent 200m pb of 23.11 with a nil wind.
Hayley Green – is healthy again after a nasty illness that hindered her last year. Now studying at UWIC she came 2nd in the Hammer (34.41m) and Discus (35.15m) at the Great West Open Meet at Exeter. Really sound openers that will score a good deal of ‘Club’ points in 2010. Good luck in your first BUCS Champs on May 1 Hayley these performances will give you great confidence.
Jon Clayton moved into the U17 age group and thus scored personal bests at Hammer (32.21m) and Discus (25.41m) to win his events at Exeter. Pb’s great but I understand that he is throwing 30m in training so the expectation is high for Jon to greatly improve that Discus throw next time out?
Alice Grosjean – is an interesting Athlete who has chosen to be our first ‘Higher Competition Member’. Alice an U17 from Mendip put the Shot 9.19m which puts her close on the heels of Christina Jones for Midland Lg points later in the year.
In the USA the Colleges are now well into their season and we have the following creditable marks: Steph Barnes – 1,500m, 4:36.36 in Atlanta & 3km, 9:47.42 in Alabama and Emma Reed ran a 4:39.06 1,500m in Stanford California.
A good start to the season by all. Come on lets have more of it next week.
