Indoor Competition Round-up: British Masters

31 Mar

Well I am sure the past weekend saw the last of indoor competition for the Winter and appropriately the Competitions at Alexander saw indoor sprints, hurdles and jumps with outdoor throws which created an interesting seasonal transition.  The British Masters Champs at Lee Valley showed some excellent results for the handful of B&W Athletes attending.

Dave BEDWELL – Dave has already had an outstanding winter as a Coach with a top training group that has produced Zac TOBIAS amongst others.  Dave returned from Lee Valley with Gold Medals for 800m & 1,500m for the M55 group with times of 2:15.96 & 4:35.04.  Great running Dave.

Tony HILLIER – Tony turned in another high ranking performance with a 4.60 PV clearance at Alexander Stad.  That beats his earlier indoor pb of 4.48 and runs close to his outdoor pb of 4.71.  After a short period of disillusionment Tony has emerged even stronger and now is in contention as a leading Vaulter in the UK.  Let him be an example to those who turn away from our sport in their U20 years.

James PRESTON – James has been going from strength to strength with his Shot performances this winter but on Saturday he improved his Discus pb.  (To the great joy of his Father Chris who was sitting in the Stand observing every move).  Great James we really have an outstanding all round Thrower to call on this track (& field) season.

Derek MORGAN – Our outdoor World Masters Champion Derek MORGAN found the opposition a little stiff at Lee Valley and had to be satisfied with a 60m Bronze Medal this time.  This still augers well for the outdoor track season as Derek is much better suited to 100m running where his strength and fitness will carry him through.

Jeremy HOGAN – 4th in the M50 1,500m meant Jeremy just missed out on a medal at Lee Valley, but he will be content with his indoor season by again improving his pb to 4:38.96.  Well done & keep it going.

Christina I left your really great throw out because I know you won’t be happy with not achieving another pb but it is after all right up there with your 2009 performances?

Next report will be after the opening matches on the W/e of 17/18 April when the season begins in earnest.  We have an important SW League at Plymouth (you will have already seen details from Chris & Simon) and for those that can’t travel we also have open meetings at Bath (17th) & Yate (18th) to tune up with.  It just leaves you all to go out and do it.
