The U17 team of Billie Williams (16:52), Annabel Gummow (12:56) (fastest leg of the day) and Naomi Speake (14:05) finished just out of the medals in 5th.
It is a hard ask to ask someone to step into a quality team to perform their first ever distance run for the club. But give Billie Williams her due, she did and performed admirably under the circumstances. Wayne Speake suggested that despite Annabel’s incredible fastest time of the day 12:55, Billie’s effort was just as good.
Olivia Sadler had failed a late fitness test on Saturday and Billie stepped up to the mark.
To lose of girl of Olivia’s ability was always going to be hard, but it almost came off.
Annabel took over on leg 2 and scythed through the field making up 31 places. Naomi’s effort was almost as good and made up a further 7 places leaving the team home in 5th.
This far exceeded my expectations and I was almost as delighted as Annabel when news broke of her fastest leg exploits.
