Bristol & West AC were sad to announce that Life Member Tom Clark, also an Avon AA Life Member, passed away at 3am on Sunday 4 October. Tom will be remembered as a Timekeeper at both Track and Endurance events over many years. His Daughter Jane won the very first race at the then new Whitchurch Track and Tom went on from there to devote much time to Athletics. We will miss you Tom. These are the thoughts of his close friend Tony Hurley:

‘I had known Tom for the past 35 years, having joined Bristol Athletic Club at about the same time. Tom had a tremendous sense of humour and his very pleasant manner endeared him to so many. He was devoted to his family and supported his daughter Jane in her athletic pursuits with the club.  It was not long after joining that Tom became involved in timekeeping, he was a man who maintained very high standards in all he did and this certainly showed in his timekeeping, a task he took very seriously.  He served his Club, County, Bristol Schools and County Schools in all disciplines requiring a timekeeper. Tom was also a great supporter of Disabled Athletics in the area; Tom was ever present whenever required. He was awarded Life membership of Bristol Athletic Club and Honorary Life Membership of Avon Athletic Association in recognition of his many years’ of sterling work.

He will be sadly missed in athletics locally and by all who knew him.  Our sincere and heartfelt thanks and condolences are extended to Iris and all of Tom’s family.’
