NJAL, Cheltenham, Sunday 24th May 2009

25 May

New personal best performances from Christina Jones HT and Zoe Laing LJ was the bonus for the small group that contested the second NJAL fixture at Cheltenham.

Christina was presented with her Athlete of the Match award for her 11.29m shot putt at the previous meeting. Zoe narrowly missed out on the award this time.

Hayley Green still suffering from a virus enjoyed the sunshine and won the discus and backed up Christina by winning the “B” competition in her other throwing events. The only blemish was a second place for Christina in the shot which probably spurred her on for her other three events.

Scott Bajere faced strong opposition in the sprints and ran well but would have liked to have recorded quicker times. Sean Hazell in his first 3000m race for some time appeared to stroll away from the field but in the sunshine and heat it was a fine effort.

It was a great collective achievement to finish 5th just 8 event points behind Halesowen who had twice as many athletes in their team.
